As we get ready to embark on our 4th consecutive Christmas tour to our second home of the Netherlands, we wanted to record something a little extra special for all our friends and loved ones here in Killarney.
Christmas in Killarney is a Bing Crosby Christmas classic, first made famous in the golden era of Christmas songs, but for us it has always captured the warmth, nostalgia and sense of home that this time of year brings. Over the years, it has become one of our favourites to sing on stage in Holland and we know our Dutch audiences love it too.
Christmas is a time when we come together and as musicians, we love nothing more than a session of music, song and dance. In Ireland we call this a seisiún — a gathering of friends and family, whether in a pub or simply around the kitchen table, for a sing song, a few steps and of course, a bit of craic.
Last week, we gathered in our local Reidy’s to record this version of Christmas in Killarney, beautifully arranged by our lead Singer, Róisín Ryan and it felt only right to capture it in the place where those moments naturally happen.
While we’ll be away this Christmas, we know we’ll be missing our nearest and dearest back home — because there really is nothing quite like Christmas in Killarney.
